The Power to Become: Moving Beyond Professionalism to True Sonship
There's a profound difference between being an heir and being a son. One focuses on what's coming, the inheritance, the benefits, the future rewards. The other focuses on what's already been given, relationship, identity, and present access to the Father's heart.
Too many people get excited about what will be left to them rather than celebrating what they already have possession of or access to. Instead of looking forward to what is coming, we should be celebrating what we currently have.
The Call to Sonship
Scripture tells us clearly in John 1:12: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." This isn't just a nice title or a theological concept, it's a transformative reality. When we receive Christ, we don't just get added to a membership list. We receive power. Power to become something we weren't before. Power to be transformed from the inside out.
The Father doesn't want to change the condition of the whole earth through religious professionals. He wants to change it through sons and daughters who know who they are and whose they are.
Professionals vs. Sons
What's the difference between a professional Christian and a son?
Professional Christians are everywhere. They can quote thirty scriptures at the drop of a hat. They read their Bible for exactly thirty minutes every day, pray for precisely one hour, and make sure to dot all the I's and cross all the T's. They profess Christ, profess their faith, and do everything by the law.
But sons? Sons are different.
Sons are risk-takers. Sons have faith that moves beyond formulas. Sons are patient, willing to grow and change. Sons don't just perform religious duties, they pursue the Father's heart.
The Father didn't send His Son into the world to create more professionals. He sent His Son to redeem us and bring many sons to glory. Not heirs who are simply waiting for their inheritance. Not religious performers who check all the boxes. But sons who are being transformed daily by the power they've received.
The Power You've Already Received
Here's the revolutionary truth: if you've received Christ, you already have the power to become a son or daughter of God. You don't have to earn it. You don't have to perform for it. You simply have to receive it.
But here's what many miss: the power you receive isn't power to change everyone else. It's not power to speak louder, preach harder, or witness more aggressively. The power you receive to become a son is power to change you.
This power allows you to recognize what needs to change in your own heart. It gives you the strength to repent when repentance is necessary. It helps you see yourself in the mirror, celebrating what's right to celebrate and changing what needs to be changed.
How many people have power within them that has been completely untapped? Power to become something more than just a professional Christian. Power to become a true son or daughter of God.
Raised in the House of the Lord
Consider the story of Samuel. His mother Hannah lent him to the Lord, and he was raised in the house of the Lord. He didn't just visit the temple occasionally. His relationship with the Father wasn't convenient or casual. It was constant. It was every single day. He was raised in the presence of God, and he became a mighty prophet.
We need a generation raised in the house of the Lord. Not people who visit when it's convenient, but people who are present, truly present, in every moment of their lives.
Being present doesn't just mean showing up on Sunday morning. It means being aware of God's presence when you're at your dinner table, on a date, at work, or anywhere else you go. It means constantly asking, "Father, what is in this moment? What is special about this moment that I'm in right now?"
One Kingdom Above All
Society offers many kingdoms. There's a kingdom of race, a kingdom of fear, a kingdom of doubt, a kingdom of rage, a kingdom of disappointment, a kingdom of argument, a kingdom of hate. Many kingdoms compete for our allegiance.
But there is only one kingdom where sons are raised: the kingdom of God.
Fear comes out of a kingdom of fear. Racism comes out of a kingdom of race. Division comes out of a kingdom of division. Hate comes out of a kingdom of hate. But out of the kingdom of God, that's the only kingdom from which sons can rise.
The kingdom of God is present to supplant every other kingdom. And the only way that can happen is when enough sons and daughters rise up and say, "This is what I'm a part of. And none of that is going to be a part of who I am."
Breaking Free from Professionalism
Many people have learned how to be professional Christians. They know how to preach, teach, and do everything necessary to profess the name of God. They're great at it. But sometimes being great at professionalism is what's killing us spiritually.
True sonship requires breaking free from the need to perform. It means letting go of the religious formulas and learning to simply walk with the Father. There's no checklist. There's no line item. It's simply knowing Him from within the power that He gave when you received Him.
Think about David eating the showbread in the temple, not very professional. Or Jesus healing a withered hand on the Sabbath, definitely not following the religious rules. Or the Apostle Paul, the ultimate professional Pharisee, having his entire worldview shattered on the road to Damascus when he encountered the living Christ.
God doesn't need professionals. He needs sons and daughters willing to take risks, willing to change, willing to let the Holy Spirit do a transforming work from the inside out.
The Choice Before Us
The whole earth can know the glory of the Lord. But it will take sons and daughters who are willing to stand tall, put their shoulders back, and declare: "I have received the power to become a child of God, and that being a son or daughter of God allows me to demonstrate that the kingdom of God can supplant every other kingdom that rises up against it."
One hundred people walking in true sonship can change more than one hundred thousand professionals ever could.
The question is: which will you be? Will you settle for professionalism, or will you embrace the power you've already been given to become a true son or daughter of God?
The Father is calling. Not for more performers. Not for more religious professionals. But for sons and daughters who will allow His power to transform them from the inside out, so that the whole earth might know His glory.
