The Power of the Resurrection

There's something profound about letting truth speak for itself. No embellishment needed. No clever additions required. Just the raw, transformative power of what already is.

Today, we're confronted with a question that cuts through all pretense: Why do we gather to remember the resurrection? Is it about tradition, about rabbits and eggs, about a cultural holiday? Or is it about something far more urgent, far more personal, far more life-altering?

The resurrection of Jesus Christ isn't a story that needs our help to be meaningful. It doesn't require substitutes or cartoons to make it tangible. The power inherent in that empty tomb requires nothing from us except one thing: belief.

The Enemy's Greatest Lie

There's an adversary working overtime to convince you of something that simply isn't true. This enemy whispers that you're too far gone. That God doesn't want you. That you're unforgivable. That your past disqualifies you from redemption. That your present condition is permanent.

But here's the truth that shatters that lie: No one is so far from God that He is incapable of raising you up from your dead condition.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Nothing is impossible with God. But for the enemies of God, some things are most definitely impossible.

Peter's Proclamation

The Apostle Peter, standing before his fellow Israelites, delivered a message that still reverberates through time. He spoke of Jesus of Nazareth, a man authenticated by miracles, wonders, and signs. A man handed over according to God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge. A man put to death by crucifixion.

But then comes that magnificent word: But.

"But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him" (Acts 2:24).

Read that again. It was impossible for death to keep its hold on Jesus.

And here's where it gets personal: Because death couldn't hold Him, death cannot hold you either.

The Living One

When John encountered the resurrected Christ in his revelation, he fell at His feet as though dead, overwhelmed by the magnitude of what he witnessed. But Jesus laid His right hand on him and said, "Fear not. I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold, I am alive forevermore. And I alone have the keys of death and Hades" (Revelation 1:17-18).

The One who holds the keys cannot be locked out. The One who conquered death cannot be defeated by it. And the One who offers you His resurrection power will not be denied by your past, your present, or your circumstances.

Buried and Raised

Paul's letter to the Romans presents a stunning reality: when we are baptized into Christ, we are baptized into His death. We are buried with Him so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3-4).

This isn't symbolic language meant to make us feel better about ourselves. This is the actual mechanism of transformation.

Our old self, the one enslaved to sin, bound by shame, defined by failure, was crucified with Christ. The body of sin was brought to nothing. We are no longer enslaved to it. The one who has died has been set free from sin.

And if we have died with Christ, we believe that we also live with Him.

Death Has Lost Its Dominion

Here's the promise that changes everything: Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again. Death no longer has dominion over Him. The death He died, He died to sin once for all. But the life He lives, He lives to God (Romans 6:9-10).

Therefore, and this is crucial, you must consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

This isn't wishful thinking. This isn't positive self-talk. This is positional truth. This is who you actually are in Christ.

Sin doesn't get to reign in your mortal body anymore. You don't have to obey its passions. You don't have to live under its power.

The Willingness of Christ

Consider what Christ willingly endured. He went to the cross willingly. He allowed them to pierce His side willingly. He allowed the crown of thorns, the vinegar and water, the beard pulled out hair by hair on the Via Dolorosa, all willingly. The beating with the cat of nine tails, over and over again, willingly.

Why?

So that death would be impossible to hold you.

So that you wouldn't have to live under the power of sin.

So that you could rise up in His resurrection.

The Choice Before You

The power of the gospel isn't found in a story we read or a song we sing. The power of the gospel is found in the choice we make.

Will His resurrection become yours?

Will His coming off the cross become your coming off your cross?

Will His words be found within your words?

Will His voice be found within your voice?

The power of the resurrection isn't determined by the day, not by a Sunday the world calls Easter, not by trials, not by tribulations, not by good days or better days. The power of the resurrection is determined by whether or not you will receive it right now, today, in this moment.

The Honest Question

Be honest with yourself: Do you believe that God sent His Son, that He died, and that He rose again for you?

Do you believe your soul belongs to God, or do you believe it belongs to you alone?

The resurrection holds within it the power to save souls, but only for those who will believe on Jesus Christ and repent of their sinful and selfish ways. For those who do, He will forgive them and forever change their life and destiny.

The Impossible Becomes Possible

Because of the resurrection, because of the obedience of Christ to His Father, because He gave His life willingly, you have access to something the enemy cannot touch: It is impossible for death to keep its hold on you.

You don't have to live under the power of sin. You can rise up in the resurrection of Jesus Christ today.

Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not when you get your life together. Not when you feel worthy.

Today.

The gospel needs no addition. Its power speaks for itself to those who have ears to hear and eyes to see.

The question is: Will you receive it?
